1. What types of candles do you offer?
We produce hand-poured soy candles in a variety of vessels. We use only 100% American-grown soybean wax.
Back to Top2. What materials are used in your candle production?
The materials used in our candle production are pretty straightforward:
- 100% American-grown soybean wax
- Naturally-derived fragrances
- lead-free cotton wicks, and
- metal, glass, or wooden containers.
3. Are your candles made from soy, paraffin, or other materials?
All of our candles are made with 100% American-grown soybean wax.
Back to Top4. How long do your candles typically burn?
The burn time varies depending on what style and size of candle it is:
- 13-oz Large Postcard Cans: approximately 80 hours.
- 8-oz Small Postcard Cans: approximately 50 hours.
- 6-oz Scent of the Month Cans: approximately 30 hours.
- Dough Bowls: Each and every bowl is unique and their burn times vary accordingly.
- Glass Vessels: these vary based on the size/style of the vessel, usually in the ~30 hours range.
5. Do your candles come in different sizes or shapes?
Yes, our candles come in various sizes and styles. Our most common is the "Postcards from Cape May", which come in a metal can wrapped in a recreated vintage postcard from Cape May's glorious past. These come in two sizes (insert sizes here).
We also produce various candles in wooden dough bowls and sometimes various glass jars and vessels.
Back to Top6. What scents are available in your candle collection?
We make our candles in many scents — too many to list here in their entirety — and your best bet is to browse the candles category in our catalog to see what's currently available.
Back to Top7. Are your candles scented with natural or synthetic fragrances?
Our fragrance blends are made of naturally derived ingredients.
Back to Top8. Do you offer unscented candles?
No, we do not make any unscented candles.
Back to Top9. Can I customize the scent of my candles?
No, we do not presently offer custom-scented candles outside of our wholesale program.
Back to Top10. Are your candles suitable for people with allergies?
Unless they have some obscure allergies, our candles should be okay.
Back to Top11. What is the recommended way to burn your candles for optimal results?
For optimal results, follow these steps:
- Always trim the wick to between 1/8" and 1/4" before lighting. Not just for the first burn, but every time you light the candle.
- The first burn is the most important: burn your candle until the wax has melted to an even depth across the candle. This prevents "tunneling" later. You'll want to repeat this each time you burn the candle.
- Don't burn your candle for longer than about four (4) hours at a time.
- Never leave your candle burning unattended.
- Keep your lit candle away from drafts/moving air. Even a clean-burning candle can throw soot if the combustion process keeps getting disturbed.
- Keep your lit candle out of the reach of kids and pets.
- To avoid smoking when you extinguish the candle, use the lid, a snuffer, or a wick-dipper.
- When you extinguish your candle, wait at least two hours before re-lighting it.
- Stop burning your candle when it reaches about 1/2" of wax remaining in the bottom.
12. Do you use lead-free wicks in your candles?
Yes, our wicks are lead-free natural cotton.
Back to Top13. Can your candles be used as decorative pieces even when not lit?
Yes, they certainly can! Our candles are quite decorative, aside from their functionality. They make excellent home decor!
Back to Top14. What makes your candles eco-friendly or sustainable?
Here's a brief list of what makes our candles more eco-friendly and sustainable than some of the other options currently on the market:
- Our candles are made with 100% American-grown soybean wax.
- Beyond the "Made in America" aspect, this also means that they have less embodied carbon emissions — the emissions associated with the production, manufacturing, transportation, and distribution of goods. Not that soy grown overseas is necessarily bad, but there are typically far more emissions involved in transporting something halfway around the world for processing and distribution than just moving it around in one country.
- We use recyclable aluminum and glass vessels.
- The ability to recycle the candle vessel after use helps divert waste out of landfills.
- We use lead-free, natural cotton wicks.
- This results in fewer toxins being released into the air when the candle burns, but also means less use of finite mineral resources and less environmental degradation from the mining of those mineral resources.
15. Are your candles vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes, our candles are vegan and cruelty-free. We do no animal testing at all, and there's a whole blog post about our animal testing stance here.
Back to Top16. How do I store my candles to maintain their quality?
Protect your candles from direct sunlight and extremes of hot and cold and you should be fine!
Back to Top17. Do your candles emit smoke or soot when burning?
No, our candles are clean-burning and do not emit smoke or soot when burning.
Back to Top18. Do you offer subscription services for candles?
At the moment, we do not have a specifically candle-oriented subscription service. However, there is a candle in each of our Scent of the Month subscription boxes!
Back to Top19. Are your candles safe for use around pets or children?
Yes, our candles are safe to burn around pets and children, but you should keep them well out of the reach of said pets and children to avoid catastrophic accidents or injury.
Back to Top20. Do you have any special holiday or seasonal candle collections?
Yes, we do release special candles for specific seasons (usually spring/Easter, fall, and Christmas). These special seasonal candles are listed in our online store whenever they become available.
